Technology transfer at the NIH is a process which transfers medical knowledge from NIH laboratories to other organizations for the purpose of developing that knowledge into medical products to enhance the public health. NIH OTT Program Specialist 

Summary

As a Program Specialist with the NIH, Office of Technology Transfer you will support the administration and coordination of technology transfer programs by managing program operations, providing administrative and technical support, including timekeeping, travel and training services, purchasing, and property management, tracking agreements and data, preparing reports and correspondence, coordinating with scientists and external partners, and ensure compliance with NIH policies and procedures.

Duties

If selected for this position, your duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive plans and strategies for the internal and external integration of day-to-day and long-range projects, actions and activities.
  • Analyze and evaluate, on a quantitative or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of programs or operations in meeting established goals and objectives and analyze program performance data to identify issues and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Participate in developing timely and executable plans of action for assigned programs requiring extensive coordination.
    Evaluate the impact of new program policies and procedures and determine measures of effectiveness and participate with decision-makers in setting organizational goals and objectives.
  • Participate in special studies, which include analyzing data, developing formats to report the results of studies, and recommending alternative courses of action.
  • Develop recommendations and policies and prepare and issue procedures and guidelines for implementation of program or administrative policies, delegations, and requirements.

Fellowship Opportunities

NCI TTC Fellowship Program

The mission of the DHHS/NIH/NCI Technology Transfer Center (TTC) is to facilitate partnerships between external organizations and the research laboratories of the NCI and nine other NIH institutes and centers. The TTC has fellowship opportunities available to qualified candidates in the fast-growing field of technology transfer. The fellowships provide an opportunity to apply a science, legal or business background to a career in technology transfer, and create a new competency. The fellowship can prepare you for technology transfer positions within academia, industry, or the federal government.  

Minimum Requirements

  • An advanced degree in the sciences, law, business, economics, or public health.  All candidates must have a background in the sciences;
  • Have received most current degree within the last 8 years;
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident (must hold green card) eligible for citizenship within 4 years;
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills.

NIAID Technology Transfer Fellowship Program

The NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Technology Transfer Fellowship Program (TTFP) is now open. It’s an immersive training program focused on technology transfer in a federal setting, including exposure to intellectual property, licensing, and research partnerships that help move discoveries toward public health use.


This could be a good fit for recent graduates (within the past 5 years) with a STEM background, or those with a JD or MBA and an interest in this space. U.S. citizenship is required.
